Hamish Douglas Burgess of Maui Celtic was back in Scotland in July 2009 to attended ‘The Gathering’ in Edinburgh, part of Homecoming Scotland 2009, a year long series of events aimed at bringing folks of Scottish heritage back to their homeland, in the year of national poet Robert Burns’ 250th birthday anniversary. Saturday evening was a highlight of the event with the Clan Parade up the Royal Mile of 8,000 clansfolk of at least 125 clans and several pipebands, from the Palace of Holyroodhouse, up the Royal Mile to Edinburgh Castle Esplanade. Hamish managed to photograph the parade, and joined his own clan, the Douglases (and unfortunately not the Strachans, his other clan - see bottom), who were led by The Caledonian Brewery Pipe Band at the head of a division, for the memorable long walk up the medieval cobbled street, with 20,000 spectators cheering them on - an epic evening !
